Bud Pines and his unnamed wife are the parents of Gideon Pines. They have a very abusive behavior towards Gideon.
Personalities[]
Not much more is known about their personalities and interests aside from their interactions with Gideon, showing them to be selfish, mean, demanding, and manipulative. They possess average intellect and common sense, as they know enough to adopt a friendly facade towards Gideon when outsiders are around. They seem to be a fairly stable couple, turning all anger they have on their son.
However, their facade is shown to be unsuccessful, as they are mistrusted, disliked, and ostracized by the town. In a DeviantArt comic made by riafire, the town's relationship with them is evident, as when Gideon attempts to warn the town about Mabel's giant robot, they say that everyone in his family is a lowlife and are liars.

Gideon Pines[]
Bud never wanted a child, so when Gideon came around, his life was practically ruined. Whenever Gideon did something wrong, Bud ended up beating him, which resulted in Gideon's constant nervous behavior. He was always rough towards his son and though both parents act nicely in public, their private behavior is truly horrifying.
Gideon's mother is less abusive but still very rough on her son. She forces him to clean the entire house and if she's not satisfied with his work, which is almost always, he gets beaten. At the end of the day, Mrs. Pines lets Bud do whatever he wants with Gideon.
Gravity Falls and the Reverse Falls AU mainly consists of a reversal of the characters' relationships; Bud Gleeful is usually proud and supportive of his son and his mother is absolutely horrified of Gideon, always vacuuming—both live in constant fear of their son. In contrast, Reverse Gideon lives in constant fear of his parents.
The Pines' agressive and abusive behavior towards their child results in aspects of his personality, notably his nervousness, bouts of social anxiety, and tendency to mistrust people. In some interpretations, such as the DeviantArt comic by riafire (with one of the pages depicting them being seen above), their abuse leads to darker woes for Gideon, such as mental instability.
